Appleberry Photography -Digital Photography -Winter Photography
It's snowing again! My gosh! Winter has taken a toll on much of the United States including here in Michigan!
As stated in a previous post, winter can be beautiful for a photographer! Though capturing the perfect balance of white when photographing the snow can be trickly, many digital cameras will self adjust to compensate for the glare of the sun on the snow.
There have been many good tips in past posts about keeping warm while outdoors in the winter and equally important, is keeping your camera, including your battery dry and warm!
Here is a photograph taken in Northville Michigan last February after a snowfall!
As you can see, there are many shadows in this photograph. Some are the result of the position of the sun in late afternoon, and other shadows are the result of a structure near the vacant bench. I decided to keep the photograph natural and not "fix" it in Photoshop.

What is Artfire- Appleberry Photography
As many of you know, my photography partner and I have opened a photography shop on Artfire. And we've received several inquiries as to what Artfire is all about!
Artfire is a premiere marketplace for artisan goods of all kinds. From handmade jewelry and crafts to photography and supplies. This site is similar to the popular Etsy.
Why did you choose Artfire over Etsy?
Carol and I have been photographers since the 1990's and have participated in several contests, sold our products to schools, students, family, friends, and have enjoyed developing our skills over the years. When we decided to take our photography to the next level, the internet, we studied our options for several months before deciding on Artfire. Etsy, in our humble opinion, is awesome, but a very large venue. We decided that we like the feel of Artfire. From our graphic designer, Rozine, who is a member of Artfire, to our colleagues who are crafters, suppliers and photographers, all have been so helpful and friendly!
The cost of a shop on Artfire is inexpensive enough that we do not have to pass the cost of doing business on to our customers. All shipping is included with our photographs.
What will you include in your shop?
Currently we have photographs of farms, historical districts, rural photography, animals, churches, landscapes, flowers, macro photography. We also feature photograph note cards affixed to certified card stock paper. Each card 5x7, has a matching envelope.
Our goal is to add to our photo gallery daily!

This is the Cady Inn in Northville Michigan. The Cady Inn has a fabulous history as it was one of the stops in the Underground Railroad that assisted many slaves from the south to their journey into Canada.

For a natural landscape with has unfixed subject, we should determine the shooting angle according to the different features from different side.
3. The use of foreground, middle ground and background.
If you want to add perspective and sense of depth on the screen, the foreground is essential. It links the elements of the scene together which makes the picture more beautiful and attracts the audience's longer attention. We need to pay attention that the foreground is the main body of the screen, but it is very important which can make the picture more plump and stereo.
The subject of the landscape photo can also be placed between the foreground and the middle ground, so middle ground processing is very important. It is the central visual guidance.
Background is used to expand the landscape and enhance the beauty of the picture. It the tone of background is light, it makes people feel distant and broad. If the tome of background is dark, it will produce a heavy majestic sense which seems like the rain is coming.
